Sharing some Cherry Hill history

The U.S. Weather Bureau was established this week, February 9, 1870. (Did the ground hog predict the length of winter prior to that time?)
Historical note from the late cousin Monette Morgan Young’s history of Poplar Springs-Reid area second edition. “By 1855, settlers were coming into this area in great numbers.” Even prior to that date,” in 1846 a post office named Cherry Hill was established about a mile and a half east or southeast of where Poplar Springs would later be.”
The Cherry Hill post office apparently moved from the above location several times and closed in 1911.

At some point in time, several post offices were located in our area–Poplar Springs, Rocky Mount, Old Town. Sarepta was the major post office for this entire region.

It appears the Fall edition of “Family Magazine” may be the last issue. The magazine, in several forms, has been published since the late 1940’s.
Founded by the late Dr. and Mrs. E.J. Daniels, the current editor is Rev. John Bos. The magazine is published bimonthly by Christ for the World Inc. in Orlando, Fl.
Reasons for stopping publication is due to the internet and the cost of printing and mailing.
The late Dr. E.J. Daniels evangelist team was in the county at Bruce for a tent revival int he 70’s or 80’s. (It drew a large crowd with many decisions.)

The $15.00 wage an hour proposal in the U.S. is still less than the $25.00 an hour minimum wage proposed by the Swiss city of Geneva.
According to the January issue of “Midnight Call” magazine, Geneva is to introduce the $25 an hour wage law.
The present wage an hour was not given but the article stated that Switzerland’s high cost and high wage did not prevent that county from exporting over $300 billion annually and importing $264 billion.
Many are taking their first Covid 19 shots this week and some are taking the second.

Hope to take my second shot next week. Had few problems with the first, but have been told the second could have side effects.
Talked with Quay Brown Sunday. It appears he is going to take time off writing Mount Comfort news. He holds the longest tenure of the current writers for the CCJ.
Sympathy to the many bereaved families including cousin Carol Gibson Langford of Vicksburg. Johnny Coleman of Thaxton, an ICC acquaintance since 1964, Pat Harrelson, Winnie Hawks, Andrea Howell, Doug Brown, and Steve Box, known by many for his association with Parker Memorial Funeral Home.
