Remembering my visit, County Line

By Published On: January 27, 2021

The Vietnam War ended this week, January 27, 1973. Spoke at County Line Baptist Church in Pontotoc County Sunday 50 years ago, January 31, 1971.
After preaching that Sunday, the church asked me to supply on a part-time basis.
I remained there for some five years preaching at off hours from Lantrip and Oak Grove.
Wedding anniversaries this week: Jan. 26 Don and Lynn Harrell; Jan. 30 Jamie and Charlotte Hill; Jan. 31 Jim and cousin Linda Miller (40 years).

Birthdays this week: Jan. 26 Ashley Jordan; Jan. 28 Durell Gaskin, David Stoddard; Jan. 29 Bill Haimes, Annette Vanlandingham Jan. 30 Debbie Graham, Annette Logan, Tommy Calhoun; Jan. 31 Mary R. Tutor, Chris Tedder.
Thanks to Barry and Angie Smith for my January 18 Houston restaurant meal.
The Smiths are active members of Friendship Baptist Church.

Bro. Gladwin Carpenter has pastored Friendship for the past 42 years. He has recently left that pastorate, but Bro. and Mrs. Carpenter will continue to reside in Grenada.
Talked with Rose Murphree January 19. She and son, Alan, both have recovered from Covid-19. It caused weakness in both of them. (That was their major complaint other than home confinement.)
Willa Kay and I were given the Covid-19 vaccine January 21 in Calhoun City. (It was a year ago that day when the first case was diagnosed in the U.S.)

Talked with two interesting people in Calhoun City late Friday–Jimmy Howell, faithful reader of these items, and cousin Joe Dye (he continues to work at Heatcraft in Grenada for some 62 years).
Sympathy to all bereaved including the families of Juanita Free (son Wayne called me about her death); Rhonda Hall, 59, of Saltillo, spouse of Bro. Curtis Alan Hall, former pastor of Vardaman and Bailey Memorial United Methodist Church; Veneal Spratlin Myrick, 83, native of Vardaman; Carl ‘Butch’ Ritchie, 71, of Pontotoc, well-known for his many years as pianist for gospel singing groups; Wilbur Williams, Emmett Joe Logan, Donald Camp, Vick Clark, who great up near Reid, and David Alford.
