Difficult 2020 of not seeing friends

By Published On: January 6, 2021

As 2020 has finally coming to an end, I would like to say “thank you” to all of you who have expressed an interest in my reporting from Shady Grove and Hipp Hill, and for your patience and tolerance in my not doing so very often.
This has been a very hard year for most of us. There are people that I love whom I have not seen at all this year.

There are about 40 funerals that we have not attended, that we probably would have were it not for the pandemic.

We have lost three friends and relatives to Covid-19, and we know of at least 15 friends and relatives who have had the virus.
We miss the social interaction and all the hugs we didn’t get. Even though, we can still proclaim with conviction that “God is good!”
Pretty much, we have “dug in” here on the Hill. Jerry did a lot yard work, gardening, and helping Chris clean up around his place.

I made between 300 and 400 masks, I guess. I made “Stone Cold and the Jackal” masks for Charlotte to give to her friends, “Love Bai” masks for Martha Dickson’s family to wear to her funeral, “Bruce High School Class of ‘56” masks for classmates to wear to Robert Bracken’s funeral. (There were six classmates there at the graveside service.) It has been 64 years since we graduated. I made patriotic masks for DAR members, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, firefighter, Shady Grove UMC, Georgian Hills UMC, “Life is Good” golfer, Mardi Gras masks, patriotic masks for a Sunday school class, and I still have some masks in mind.

I also canned the veggies that Jerry raised and cooked supper for our family almost every night. We are blessed to have our immediate family live in close proximity to us.
We face the future with faith and optimism and look forward to reconnecting face to face with those whom we love.
May all of you have a blessed new year!
