Calhoun City fifth graders use writing project to make recipes

By Published On: October 14, 2020

Calhoun City fifth grade students, including one virtual student, are bringing their learning to life.
Kayla Denton’s English students spent their day recently writing and constructing their very own class recipe book full of their favorite recipes – old family recipes and recipes they want to make.
After finishing a unit on understanding technical/procedure texts, Miss Denton challenged them to not just read one, but to make one of their own.
The students went home and asked parents and grandparents for recipes, researched online and then hand wrote their recipes, created food collages with old magazines and put together a hard copy of their recipe book that their teacher can use for years to come.
“Proceed with caution if you plan to make any of these recipes in your own kitchen,” said Miss Denton.
