News-Notes: Miss Junior Blount and his GTO antique

Historic note from cousin Monette Young’s history of the Reid-Poplar Springs area: “The names of some of the small communities which were near Poplar Springs have vanished.” Listed were Pine Ridge, Shirley Ridge and Pumpkin center.
Note: Pumpkin Center is still on the map today with Embry’s Pumpkin Center Frames.

Attended the a.m. session of the revival July 15 at Reedy’s Chapel.
Bro. Parish Hartley was guest speaker. Lynn Reedy and Edna Easley had charge of the music.
Bro. Parish is an evangelist, church planter, and pastor of the Hispanic Church in Vardaman.
He was ordained into the ministry at Friendship Baptist Church in 1989.
Friendship Baptist Church will have revival July 18-23. Sunday service at 6 p.m. Weekday services at 7 p.m. Speakers include Bro. Jeremy Williams Sunday p.m., Bro. Parish Hartley Monday and Tuesday, Bro. Winfield-Wednesday, Bro. Owen Hitchcock Thursday and Friday.

The church is seeking a pastor. Bro. Jerry Hartley has been interim since Bro. Gladwin Carpenter left the church.
Talked with Junior Blount July 5 one day after he turned 75. He seems to be doing very well in Nashville.
He is still being missed at church and around the area in his GTO. His car was in most area antique shows.
Have failed to mention we have a new family in our community. Matthew and Delisha Vanek and at present their five children. They are residing in the former home of Rudy and Jamie Williams.
Sympathy to the many bereaved families including Margie Grist, Henry Lee Taylor, Tommy Sledge, Polly Poe, Diane Luther, Clyde Henry (72 of Houlka, whose services were Saturday at West Shady Grove-Houlka.)
