News Notes – Rain forces noon meal to Peacock’s shed

Quote from cousin Monette Young’s history notes of Poplar Springs-Reid area: “By my early teen years, Poplar Springs Church had acquired hanging gasoline lanterns.
They lighted well, but oh, were so dangerous. I can recall the earlier years when small reflected kerosene lamps sat on the walls somehow, a shelf, I guess.”
My note: The time frame of the above would have been in the late 1920’s or early 30’s.
Electricity did not reach our area until 1947. Likely, the above lighting system was used until that time.

Due to the rain, the noon meal was served at Tom ‘Peacock’ and Barbara Bailey’s shed.
