Man arrested for Derma business breakins
A Derma man has been arrested for several business break-ins in Derma over the weekend.
Law enforcement have charged Jackie Yates with burglaries of Russell’s Body Shop, Sonic, Derma Post Office, Daniels Temple and York’s Greenhouse.
Sheriff Greg Pollan said most of the break-ins were over the weekend, but two break-ins at Daniels Temple were a couple of weeks ago.
Small amounts of cash were taken from a few of the places and a couple of pistols from Russell’s Body Shop.
Yates was charged with four counts of burglary of a commercial building and one count of burglary of a church.
Yates was caught on video breaking-into the Sonic around 2:30 Sunday morning. He picked up a stepping stone outside the business and swung it six times crashing the glass door on the front of the drive-in restaurant.
As soon as the glass broke, the alarm went off sending Yates running away. Calhoun City policeman Ezra Conner was first to respond to the alarm call. Corey Alexander, a Bruce policeman, also responded.
Calhoun City Chief Benny Langford said Yates turned himself in early Monday morning.
The investigation by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Derma Police Department and the Calhoun City Police Department is ongoing.
