Calhoun County 4-H Kids in the Kitchen made King Cake Bubble Up at their monthly meeting last week.
Extension secretary Amber Dauzat shared the recipe in the February 13 issue of The Journal.
“We’re going to bring a little Louisiana in here with a quick easy way to make a King Cake dessert,” she said.
The 25 in attendance enjoyed mixing, decorating and eating the cinnamon roll-based dessert.
While the cake was baking, Dauzat presented the history of King Cake, and emphasized the three colors of sugar used.

King Cake Bubble Up
2-12.4 oz. cans refrigerated Pillsbury cinnamon rolls
1-8 oz. package cream cheese, softened
2/3 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup milk
Purple, yellow, green sugar
Preheat oven to 375°. Lightly spray 9×13” pan with cooking spray. Separate cinnamon rolls, saving icing to use later. Cut each cinnamon roll into 4 pieces. Place in bottom of prepared pan. Using hand held mixture, beat together cream cheese and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla, mixing well. Add milk and mix until combined. Pour over chopped cinnamon rolls. Stir gently. Bake 30-35 minutes. Remove from oven and cool for 5-10 minutes. Spread cinnamon roll icing over top of casserole. Sprinkled with colored sugar. Serves 8-10. Extra icing: 1 cup powdered sugar, 1/2 tsp. vanilla, 1-2 Tbsp. milk. Mix sugar, vanilla and milk, one Tbsp. at a time, until spreadable. Mixture will thicken slightly as it sets.
