John Hitt, 84, went to his heavenly home Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was born September 6, 1932 in Slate Springs, the son of George “Pat”  and Ruby Jennings Hitt. Joseph Cleveland

Joseph Carlton Cleveland, 98, of Pittsboro, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016, at home in Pittsboro. Born June 12, 1918 in Itawamba County, he was the son of Oscar E. and Effie D. Knight Cleveland.  He was a member of Skuna Valley Baptist Church, was the retired owner of Pittsboro Service Station, and enjoyed  fishing, hunting, gardening, and watching wrestling.  [Read more...]

Theo Fox, 86, departed this life October 26, 2016. She was born July 10, 1930 to Earlie and Squaire Fox. She was a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the kitchen staff and usher board. She loved gardening, fishing, canning and serving others in the community. Thomas Hanley

Thomas Edward Hanley, 77, of Houlka, passed away at Sanctuary Hospice Saturday, Oct.29, 2016 after an brief illness. He was born February 15, 1939 in Calhoun County to Levi and Idean Mooneyham Hanley. He had served in the U.S. Army, had worked in the timber industry and retired from furniture manufacturing. Lanita Gwen (Hasting) Hardeman, 63, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016 while in the company of her children at Baptist Health Memorial Hospital in Little Rock, Ar., where she had lived the past seven years.  She was affectionately known by those that knew her as Gwen. She was born  July 21, 1953, to Zack Rabon Hasting, Jr. and Willie Pearl (Brasher) Hasting.  She was born and raised in Bruce, and was a resident of Greenwood, Destin, FL, Grenada, and Little Rock, AR.  [Read more...]

Minnie Penick

Minnie Ann Hamilton Penick, 84, went to her heavenly home Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016 at Floy Dyer Manor in Houston. She was born August 23, 1932 in Oxford, the daughter of William Prince Hamilton Sr. and Mary Louise McCullough Hamilton. She was a member of Vardaman First Baptist Church. During her career, she provided accounting services for family-owned businesses and in later years she worked with the Calhoun County school system and North Mississippi Health Services. Sheriff’s dog visits BUES

kennethDeputies from the sheriff's department came to speak to 4th graders at BUES this week. Students have been learning about local and state government and the roles of various people in the system. They enjoyed meeting K-9 deputy Rico and asking lots of questions about what the sheriff and his deputies encounter on a daily basis.
