Lots of Christmas activities around Calhoun County

The Christmas season officially kicks off this weekend with Christmas parades in Bruce and Calhoun City along with a number of other holiday activities.

The annual Bruce Lions Club Christmas Parade is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 4 at 4:30 p.m. with Walter Goodman, of Pittsboro, serving as grand marshal.
The theme for this year’s parade is “Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.” Prizes will be awarded for the top three floats. Each participating float will be given money for expenses.

The Bruce parade will be preceded by a number of activities. The GRACE Club will host “Pancakes With Santa” from 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at the Bruce Community Building in Bruce Park. Tickets are $10 for individual child (includes one photo and adult and child’s plate) or $15 for family (includes one photo and up to four plates). Tickets will be available at the door.
Santa will then move to the Bruce Square from 2-3:30 p.m. to visit with children and pose for pictures. Please bring your own camera.
For those still Christmas shopping, the Bruce Rotary Club’s Annual Auction will begin at 1:30 p.m. on the square. Charles Chrestman will auction off a trailer full of items donated by local Continued from page 1
“We’ll have something for everybody,” Auction Chairman Don Bell said. “Come on out and have some fun with us before the parade.”
The Rotary Club will also be offering soup, cornbread and a drink for $5 on the Square beginning at 11 a.m.
The Calhoun County 4H Horse Club will have a stew cooking before the Bruce Christmas Parade at the car lot in Bruce. Stew will be sold by the gallon, quart or cup. They will also have tea, lemonade, hot chocolate and desserts. Pre-orders may be taken by contacting any Calhoun 4H Horse Club member or volunteer.
Santa will zip over to Vardaman for a while Saturday morning as well. He will be posing for pictures in the VHS music room (south end of the high school) from 9-11 a.m. Cost is $5 per individual or family pictures for $8. Proceeds will benefit VHS?Seniors.
Ruth Cole will lead the Calhoun City Christmas parade as grand marshal beginning at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6.
The theme for this year’s parade is “Hometown Christmas.”
Lineup will begin at 5:30 p.m. around the baseball field. A $100 prize will be awarded to the top float. Judges for this year’s parade will be located at City Hall.
The Calhoun City Christmas Tour of Homes, sponsored by New Century Club, will be Saturday, Dec. 11 from 3-7 p.m. The tour begins at City Hall with refreshments and maps. Homes on this year’s tour include Joey and Raven Hawkins, Natalie Spencer, Harvey and Cindy Hardin, Leslie and Tracy Harrelson.
Tickets are $8 and available at Laura Edwards’ accounting office in Calhoun City and Jeffery's in Bruce or from any NCC member.
Big Creek’s 10th Annual “Redneck” Christmas Parade will be Saturday, Dec. 18.
“If you can ride it, drag it, pull it, or push it, put a bow on it and bring it and enjoy the fun,” Big Creek Mayor Dwight DeVall said.
The “biggest redneck” will be awarded $100. A fireworks show will immediately follow the parade. Refreshments and singing will then be offered in the community center.
