Christmas Parades Are This Saturday, Dec. 6

A flurry of Christmas activities is approaching beginning with the Bruce and Calhoun City Christmas parades both scheduled for this Saturday.

A flurry of Christmas activities is approaching beginning with the Bruce and Calhoun City Christmas parades this Saturday.
The Calhoun City Christmas parade has been rescheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. The parade was rescheduled due to the Calhoun City football team playing the state championship game Friday afternoon. The team will be honored in the Saturday parade. This year’s grand marshal is Judge Henry Lackey.
The annual Bruce Lions Club Christmas Parade is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6 at 4:30 p.m. with retired forester Don Bell serving as grand marshal.
The theme for this year’s parade is “Antique Christmas.” Prizes will be awarded for the top three floats. Each participating float will be given money for expenses.

The Bruce parade will be preceded by a number of activities. The GRACE Club will host “Pancakes With Santa” from 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at the Bruce First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. See any club member for tickets or visit Kim & Co. or Stepp Saver Pharmacy.
Santa will then move to the Bruce Square from 2-3:30 p.m. to visit with children and pose for pictures. Please bring your own camera.
For those still Christmas shopping, the Bruce Rotary Club’s Annual Auction will begin at 1:45 p.m. on the square. Charles Chrestman will auction off a trailer full of items donated by local businesses.
“We’ll have something for everybody,” Auction Chairman Don Bell said. “Come on out and have some fun with us before the parade.”
The winners of the best Christmas trees in the Bruce Forestry Museum will also be announced on parade day.
Activities continue on Sunday, Dec. 7 when Calhoun City will host its annual Christmas Tour of Homes from 2-5 p.m.
The tour will begin at the newly renovated City Hall and continue to the homes of Johnny Dean, Bailey Gordon and Linda Ramage. The event is sponsored by the New Century Club.
The New Century Club Juniorettes will sponsor “Breakfast With Santa” on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from any Juniorette member or by calling 983-8029. The event is for ages 10 and under.
Big Creek’s 8th Annual “Redneck” Christmas Parade will be Saturday, Dec. 13.
“If you can ride it, drag it, pull it, or push it, put a bow on it and bring it and enjoy the fun,” Big Creek Mayor Dwight DeVall said.
The parade will start at 6 p.m. with lineup at 5 p.m. A fireworks show will follow the parade and refreshments will be served in the community center with singing by Bobby Hood and Sheryl Fleming.
National Guard's 16th annual Christmas to Remember program is also underway. Distribution date is Dec. 14. Donations of toys, clothes, and food are being taken through Dec. 14. Call 628-5812 for more information.
