No gate admission today (Wednesday) at County Fair; Carnival armbands only $13

The 90th edition of the Calhoun County Fair will continue all this week highlighted by the carnival, chicken scramble, goat show, pet show, and rodeo.

The goat show will be Wednesday, July 17 at 1:30 p.m. There will be no gate admission Wednesday and carnival armbands will only be $13.

Armbands will be $20 Thursday-Saturday. Gate fee will be $2 Thursday and $5 Friday and Saturday.

Mississippi Delta Shows will again be providing the carnival rides which will include a new and improved ferris wheel with a large light show.

“We’re excited about the new ferris wheel,” Calhoun Extension Agent Trent Barnett said. “It will be a great addition to the fair.”

Thursday events will include a 4-H crock pot supper, biscuit making contest, the annual pet show, a pony pull and a chicken scramble.

Trent Barnett, Calhoun Extension Agent, said pigs have become harder to come by for the scramble so the Fair Board decided to use chickens this year.

Friday, July 19 will be the opening night of the PCA Rodeo featuring cowboys from all over the country competing. The rodeo will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Saturday’s events will include a Round Robin Roping at 9 a.m. and a Big Buck Contest in the multi purpose building.

Barnett said any mounted buck can be entered. Scoring will be done by MDWFP officials.
