MPB to broadcast Calhoun City’s state championship football game

Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) will broadcast the MHSAA/FedEx High School Football Championships, presented by Bank Plus, live December 3-4.  At 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 3, the Calhoun City High School Wildcats will play the Lumberton High School Panthers for the Division 2A title.

“We are very excited that our kids will be exposed to the state on MPB,” states Wildcats Head Coach Perry Liles. “This is a very deserving group of kids who are also great athletes.”

Calhoun City last appeared in the state championship in 2008. Calhoun City’s first trip to the football championship was in 1983 against Lumberton.

“MPB looks forward to airing the football championships each year because we know how much the sport means to our audience.” said Jay Woods, Acting Director of MPB. “We know that everyone cannot make it to Jackson for the games, so for the seventh consecutive year, we are proud to be part of the excitement and showcase these young athletes on television for a statewide audience.”

This year the sportscast will include special guest Romero Miller, 1997-2000 Ole Miss quarterback.  Miller will provide play analysis.  Russ Robinson of MPB’s “Friday Night Under the Lights,” will once again provide the play-by-play for each of the games.

“Every year I say the championships can't get any better than those of the past, but the match-ups this year promise to rank at the top for competitiveness and excitement,” said Ennis Proctor, Executive Director of the MHSAA. “We thank MPB for their commitment to ensuring that every Mississippian has a chance to see this outstanding high school football talent.”
