Jacy Hillhouse

“We like stuff wrapped in bacon,” said Jacy Hillhouse of Bruce, and “I use garlic powder all the time. I put it in everything, it seems like.”
Bacon wrapped green beans are a favorite that she tops with brown sugar, soy sauce and, of course, garlic powder.
She and husband Wes eat a lot of meals with his brother Warren Hillhouse and wife Megan, and his cousin Javen Aron and his wife Ashlyn.
Jacy, Megan and Ashlyn also share a lot of recipes.

They also like deer meat wrapped in bacon with cream cheese and jalapenos grilled, and deer meat marinaded and grilled, or either fried.
“I like to eat crappie better than catfish–with hush puppies, French fries,” she said, with her mother-in-law, Jennifer’s, onion salad.
Jacy has been able to cook since she was 14 or 15 and learned by watching her grandmother, mom and step-mom, and has a collection of their recipes that she stores in a binder.
She remembers watching and helping them bake cookies and cakes when she was young. She recalled making teacakes with her grandmother, and that she made her first batch too big, so they all spread out together “like a cake”, but that you could break them apart to eat and they were still good.

She has tried to make her mamaw’s biscuits, “but you have to be patient with biscuits,” she said.
She cooks a lot and loves to bake now. She loves Pinterest for recipe searching, especially for baking.
Butterfinger cake and strawberry cake are two favorites of Wes that she makes a lot also.
For their Christmas Eve finger foods, she usually makes a dried beef cheese ball, or Captain Rodney’s dip, which Wes and her three younger brothers really like.

Jacy loves shrimp and her favorite way to fix it is with sausage and potatoes, drizzled with olive oil and seasoned with garlic powder, onion powder, worcestershire and Old Bay seasoning, and baked on a sheet in the oven.
“The squash dressing is a good summertime recipe. I love to make the cheesecake, and the breakfast burritos are very good,” she said about her submitted recipes.
Jacy would like to have a garden, and likes to try new things–eating and cooking, saying she is not picky, but is not a big fan of spaghetti.
