Grant Approved For New ‘City Plant

The Mississippi Development Authority approved a $95,000 grant to assist the opening of a new furniture plant in Calhoun City.
Kidz World, LLC, established by A.D. and Linda Blount, Justin and Allison Nichols, is preparing to open later this year in the old Kellwood building.

The Blounts, who currently operate Med-Lift Inc. in Calhoun City, are in the process of leasing the eastern portion of the Kellwood facility on North Madison. The school district’s Career and Technical Center is located in the western portion of the building. Kidz World’s portion of the building would consist of approximately 50,000 square feet and be accessed from Boland Street.
The grant will help with renovation costs to transform the warehouse facility into a manufacturing plant.
Kidz World will produce kids’ furniture such as recliners. The company has already secured license agreements with almost all professional sports leagues and Disney and Mossy Oak.
The facility is expected to employ a minimum of 30 people in the beginning stages.
Calhoun City Mayor J.R. Denton said an architect for the renovation project is scheduled to be approved at next Tuesday’s board meeting. Work on the building is expected to begin within the next 30 days.
