Bill Graves

William Frye Graves, 93, of Asheville, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Givens Estates Health Center. A native of Montgomery, AL, Bill was the son of the late Henry Norman and Lee Frye Graves. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Ann Taylor Graves. Miss Lakyn Danielle Burt, 18, of Bruce,  died Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham, Al. She was born August 11, 1998 in Oxford. She was the daughter of Jody D. Bobby Murphree

Bobby Dean Murphree, 83, of Houlka,  passed away surrounded by his family Tuesday, June 27, 2017,  at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born September 27, 1933, in the Reid Community, the son of Dee and Ethel Odell Brown Murphree. He was a retired truck driver and dispatcher, and member and deacon of Schoona Valley Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his family, camping trips, and attending the National Singing Quartet Convention. He was a 1951 graduate of Houlka High School. [Read more...]

Theresa Nicks – from radio station, music columnist, working in unemployment office to jewelry making

Theresa Nicks, of Bruce, has never met a bead she didn’t like. She’s been making her own jewelry since 1995.
“I have so many things,” she said opening drawer after drawer, showing her endless collection of beads and materials used in making her unique designs.

Ervin Wright

ervin wrightErvin Wright, a native of Bruce, wasn’t ordained to preach until 2010. He’s led Grace Southern Baptist in Calhoun City ever since. For most of its history the church, located across the street from the Calhoun City Cemetery, was known as Second Baptist, but changed its name a decade ago just prior to Wright’s arrival.
