BUES gets Dollar General grant

dg-to-buesBruce Upper Elementary School  has received a $1000 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to be used in their library. The grants are aimed at supporting teachers, schools and organizations with resources to strengthen and enhance literacy instruction. With BUES librarian Nancy Logan are fourth grade students Jasmin Tutor, Cadyn Humphries, Jason Brownlee and Lylla Howell. This local grant is part of $4.5 million awarded to approximately 1000 organizations across the 43 states that Dollar General serves.

Calhoun unemployment continues to drop

Calhoun County recorded it’s lowest unemployment rate since January of 2000 according to the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.

Mary Lou Redwine

Mary Lou Kendall Redwine, 78 died  Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016, at BMH in Oxford. Born April 1, 1938 in Bruce, she was the daughter of Rev. William David and Vardie Lou Kendall.  She was employed by Piggly Wiggly in Bruce, and was a member of Church of God of Prophecy in Bruce. [Read more...]
