Ray, Monaghan Hired As New Principals

The Calhoun County School Board hired Calhoun City football coach Mike Ray and Bruce kindergarten teacher Paula Monaghan as the distirct's next school principals at its meeting Monday night.

Calhoun City 19, Bruce 13

Parker Returns From Year Teaching In China

china_camel.jpgWhen Tim Parker first arrived in Beijing, he entered his hotel room to find a mat on the floor. It was his bed. "I was expecting more of a Western hotel," Parker said. "It was culture shock, right off the bat." Parker, 30, is a Calhoun Academy graduate who earned degrees from ICC ,
and Mississippi State, before completing his graduate work at Southern
Miss. He was teaching 10th grade English at Corinth when he decided he
was ready for a new experience. Parker said he had become dissatisfied with the experience of teaching
in Mississippi Public Schools where the curriculum was so
"test-focused." He found what he was looking for with Education First – an international leader in foreign study programs.

Journal Wins Eight Awards In Better Newspaper Contest

The Calhoun County Journal earned eight awards, including four first
place, in the Mississippi Press Association's Better Newspaper Contest
at the association's 143rd annual convention last week in Biloxi.

Seven On Seven Football

Vardaman, Bruce, Calhoun City, and Eupora were all involved in seven-on-seven scrimmages at Bruce Monday morning. The teams were using the scrimmages to work on their passing games.

Parker Earns All Star Honors

Calhoun County native Cade Parker, of Panama City Beach, Fl, was among the top 12 players
were chosen from city league baseball teams for the U-8 Panama City
Beach All-Star Team.

Bruce Hosting Baseball Tournament This Week

Bruce High School will host a high school baseball tournament at Bruce Park this Thursday through Saturday. Five different schools will be participating in the three day tournament. The games will all be five innings or 1:45 time limit.
