Houston Nutt Returns Home To Mixed Reviews

There have been movies made about it, as well as songs, along with
books and the like. It’s just something about going home. The feeling
you get when you see those familiar faces you’ve spent times together
for all those years, trading stories and remembering all the times of
the past. Last Saturday night in Fayetteville, Ark. – one of the most
desolate places I’ve ever been, mind you – Houston Nutt was home.

Mother, Wife, Teacher – Deer Hunter

sandy_aron.jpgThe cool air, the peacefulness, and the sudden rush of adrenaline are all contributors to why Sandy Aron loves to hunt. “It’s hard to explain that feeling when the deer shows up – the adrenaline rush,” Aron said. “It’s serious competition.” Aron, a teacher at Bruce High School, has enjoyed her share of rushes
lately. Just last week she killed her first deer while bow hunting. She
had only taken up the bow a few weeks prior.

School Board Meets At VES

The Calhoun County School Board took its regular monthly meeting “on the road” for the first time Monday night as it conducted business in the Vardaman Elementary School library. The meeting allowed for parents to come address the board. Three took advantage of the opportunity raising questions about the use of “rolling backpacks” at the school, school bus safety, and the future of the school’s agricultural programs.

Hazel Sprayberry, 92, who lives southwest of Calhoun City,  is well-known for making sourdough bread, and frequently shares the bread ‘starter’ with friends and neighbors.

Laura Jean Harrell

Laura Jean Harrell died Friday, October 24, 2008 at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 74. Born in Grenada, she has been a resident of Redwood for the past eight years. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church.
